The race

Hi, friends:  Sign-ups are open!  Please give the rules a careful read before signing up for the race.

The Runaway Jim 180 is a 179-mile dogsled race in Alaska’s White Mountains, starting January 8, 2018.

The White Mountains in interior Alaska have a well-deserved reputation of being spectacular, and sometimes challenging. The trail goes above treeline through Cache Mountain Divide and can blow-in while you watch it. Overflow is common. It will be cold. It will be dark. The hills are long and just keep coming. It will be amazing!! Come on out and enjoy Interior Alaska mushing at its finest.

Entry details: Application forms will be accepted by the Race Secretary and will be available online. We will begin accepting applications October 20, 2017 and will announce the initial musher list on November 6, 2017. Mushers will then need to mail payment to race secretary to confirm their spot. Any spots not paid for by November 20 will not be held if we have a waiting list.  By agreement with the BLM the number of entries is capped at 20, and the race committee reserves the right to accept or decline entry and no entry will be final until payment is received in full.

Many thanks to the Fairbanks District Office of the Bureau of Land Management for making their trails available to us!
Mushers: the BLM is concerned about keeping the trails tidy, and so are we!  You’d be doing them, us, and the White Mountains a solid if you can clean up your straw if you’re camping on the trails or at the cabins while training.  Many thanks!
